Non-Emergency Medical Transportation in Southern California, Explained

NEMT in one sentence

A planned ride to or from a medical appointment, in a vehicle that fits the patient's mobility, driven by someone trained to help. It is not an ambulance.

  • 24/7 dispatch
  • No doctor's referral required
  • ADA-compliant vehicles
  • Licensed and insured

Non-emergency medical transportation, usually shortened to NEMT, is a scheduled ride to or from care for someone who cannot safely drive or use ordinary transit. It is not an ambulance, and there are no sirens or emergency crew.

It is a planned trip in a vehicle that fits the patient, driven by someone trained to help. MedBridge is a medical transport service built for exactly that job, and we provide NEMT Southern California patients and care teams can book directly in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

Who uses NEMT?

Older adults who no longer drive, people who use wheelchairs, patients recovering from surgery, people who go to dialysis or chemotherapy every week and residents of nursing and assisted living communities. Family members often make the booking, and hospital staff book for patients every day.

Los Angeles and beyond

Most of our rides begin in Los Angeles, from dialysis runs in the San Gabriel Valley to discharges downtown. For medical transportation Los Angeles families and hospitals can count on, start with our Los Angeles County page. We also serve Orange County, San Bernardino County and Riverside County.

Wheelchairs and stretchers

Our wheelchair vans have hydraulic lifts and secure tie-downs, so patients stay in their own chair. For wheelchair transportation Southern California riders trust, we also offer gurney transportation with a two-person team, and ambulatory transportation for patients who walk.

How to get started

Call (818) 788-0322 at any hour or use the contact page. Tell us where the patient is going, how they get around and when they need to arrive. We confirm the vehicle, the price and the pickup time, usually in a few minutes. See every option on our services page.

Why choose a medical transport service over a rideshare?

A rideshare driver is not trained to secure a wheelchair, lift a patient safely or wait while someone walks slowly to the car. A medical transport company is. We bring the right vehicle, a trained driver and a dispatch team that follows the trip from pickup to return.
